Thoughts on Macworld
Jan 15th, 2008 by twistmac
Well it’s that time of year again Macworld ‘08 and good old Steve Jobs had his keynote address this morning. A lot of new stuff was announced and I figured I might as well give my opinion on it all. You can find more out about the products on Apple’s website.
MacBook Air: It’s a nice idea to make a more portable laptop, but this is just too expensive considering the features it has. $3,000+ for a 64GB SSD that’s a little crazy. Plus I can’t get over not having firewire, it feels weird without it.
iTunes Movie Rentals: Sounds like a cool idea.
Over 1000 movies - available 30 days after the DVD release of the film.
Watch anywhere - Macs, PCs, all current iPods and iPhone.
Watch instantly - 30 second delay with modern broadband
Rules - 30 days to start watching, 24 hours to complete once started
Pricing - $2.99, new releases $3.99
I’ll just have to wait and see how the quality is, but if it’s like the movies and shows they have now then I’m all for it.
iPod Touch software update: I have an iPod Touch so all I have to say is “$20 to upgrade wtf!”, it’s only 4 new apps that they really should have had on there to begin with.
iPhone Software Update: They look like cool new apps, but I don’t have an iPhone and won’t probably ever get one, so it’s kinda not a big deal to me.
Time Capsule: Awesome. At home I’m usually hooked to my external HDs at my desk, so it’s not that big a deal for me, but I still think it’s really awesome to have a wireless HD that’s got Apple’s ease of use.
So there you have it. A quick look at what I thought of the Macworld keynote. I know someone will probably reply and say I’m crazy, but oh well, I’m used to it by now.
